If not evil then what?

I have heard, several times now, advocates and critics of the wealthiest segment of the world (the 1%) say ‘these people are not evil, their just like you and me.’

I think we would all agree that child molester’s, serial killers, warlords(third world warlords), terrorists(third world terrorists) even rapists, etc are evil.  We are told that communists are evil — back in the day of the USSR commies were dirty, godless and evil… the axes of evil! Any enemies we may acquire in our dealings with other nations will be, by default, evil!

How is it then, that those who exploit the resources and labor of poorer countries or arms dealers/manufactures get a free pass? People who live well, are respected?

When The Americas were new (to Europeans) the so-called forefathers kept slaves and murdered indigenous populations and yet they were given, until recently, a free pass in the ‘official’ history books. Well that was a different time and slavery and genocide are no-longer tolerated? But, is that so? If you consider Walmart paying its employees minimum wage and less (an unlivable wage)  while the heads in Bentonville Arkansas reap billions!

Psychopaths

Unfortunately things will never change (not for the better) because, only a few of us are interested! The rest, which I shall refer to as Themasses or Sheeple, don’t care! They are either mesmerized by the message beamed into their heads by the mainstream media or they’re “still” fortunate enough to be making ends meet… or both. They do not and will not seek an alternative source of information like Common Dreams… they take comfort in the mainstream propaganda/censorship!!! It lulls them into thinking everything is under control. They are the cattle, totally unaware of their keepers ill intentions, happy as long as they are fed. These are the people that need to be alerted, for they are unfortunately, the blissfully ignorant ‘majority!’

How do we reach them!!! How do you convince someone who has watched the message all their lives that it is controlling (not by some hidden gama alpha particles beamed into heads) but by subtle psychologically engineered message (see Edward Bernays) http://www.historyisaweapon.com/defcon1/bernprop.html

But who would do such a thing and why? First of all it would be expensive —  hiring brilliant minds and controlling the media would not be cheap! Then, why — what reason could there possibly be, to go to such effort and expense, why not rely on nature to settle the score? Because they are the one percent and if it cost them billions to stay the one percent, then its money well spent?

If you don’t identify with themasses, then why not, who are you; do you question the status quote or do you swallow the message, without question? Or do you roll your eyes, knowing that your contemporary’s are just rolling theirs? We know its rigged but what can we do? The Occupy Movement is the closest most people will come to understanding what is going on?

In conclusion (until I have a moment it alter/add) YES, I think they are evil or at least on that side of the Evil/Good spectrum. They may love ‘their’ children but they wouldn’t think twice about exploiting yours or enslaving yours or destroying yours!

They may even buy into the notion of god (as long as that god allows for their excesses!) They may even claim to be chosen, by god, to live the good life! If there is a heaven and hell…….. my guess, they’re in for a big let down come judgement day!

I’m back…I think?

I pride myself on having an open mind (hence the name “Be An Open Mind”(which needs rethinking?)) Having an open  mind doesn’t necessarily guarantee a bright one; that is why this blog was abandoned for a year or so. Ya see, I’d lost my WP address and could not find my way back. Actually I didn’t try too hard until today when I received notice that I had a follower — what the… someone read something I wrote?

So, thanks to Emily, my interest in my own blog has been renewed; enthusiasm may follow?

Critical Thinking, MainStream Media and Themasses

Every day I encounter at least one article about our dwindling democracy and every day shudder at the thought of approaching fascist elements! But, I look around and I see very few people sharing that concern — causing me to question my sanity and my suspicions! Thirty years ago I recall a conversation with my in-laws; they argued that things were too established, too stable to fail? I doubt the contrast between now and then has bothered or even be noticed by them?

Those of us over 30 may have noticed the word ‘democracy’ becoming commonplace these days even in the mainstream media and that alone is cause for concern — we wouldn’t be talking about democracy if there weren’t reason for concern, right? In the 60’s 70’s and 80’s nuclear annihilation was a very real threat and the word communist was well used ‘terrorism’ was yet to come!

Excuse me for rambling, I guess my point is, that we (the people) are under attack and very few of us are aware or even care? Of the many friends and acquaintances in my email address book, less than five care to respond to pertinent articles and only one with any sort of regularity the rest seem oblivious!
